Park Description

Victory Parkway is an arterial highway that passes through the Walnut Hills and Avondale sections of Cincinnati. It enters Eden Park at the Eden Park Drive bridge and affords the motorist a delightful drive through the park. It is 3.5 miles long, ending at Reading Road. The land was acquired through ordinance, purchase and gifts. Construction of the parkway began in 1911 and was completed in 1930.

Planting was started in 1915 with the Park Department supplying the trees, shrubs, perennials and vines. An iris garden was planted north of Gilbert Avenue on the east side of the parkway below Walnuts Hills High School. A peony garden was planted at the end of Rockdale Avenue. At one time the parkway included a riding stable and bridle trails.
