Spend An Afternoon at Krohn Conservatory

Open 365 days a year (366 days in 2008!) from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m, The Krohn Conservatory is a quiet afternoon getaway any day of the year. You can walk among the plant collection under 40 foot tall palm trees along with over 30 other species of trees. The Krohn has seven permanent display areas: The Palm House, the Tropical House, the Show Room, where each of the seasonal exhibits are displayed; the Desert House, the Orchid House, the Carnivorous display and the Bonsai Room.

While in the Palm House, one of the most popular attractions is the waterfall at the back. The best vantage point from which to enjoy it is from the bridge over the stream. You can even walk through a tunnel behind the waterfall! The stream that the waterfall empties into spans the length of the Palm House, and winds its way into the Tropical House, where you can watch the koi (carp goldfish) swimming in the pond. One of the fish is reputed to be over 40 years old! Even though there are coconut palms living there, the Palm House is actually named for a former Park Board Commissioner named Max Palm.

Special events such as the Orchid Show and Sale happen each year, attracting exhibitors from all over the Midwest. The Krohn can also be reserved on certain evenings for private events such as company parties or weddings. You can shop in the gift shop most days for gardening-themed gifts and unique keepsakes. The Krohn Conservatory puts on six regular exhibits in the Show Room each year: The Early Spring Show, the Spring Show, the Butterfly Show, the Summer Show, the Autumn Show and the Holiday Show.  At the end of most shows, many of the extra plants are sold at rock-bottom prices at an end-of-show sale. Remaining dates for 2008 End-of-Show sales are: Wednesday April 2; Saturday June 28 at Warder Nursery, 7000 Warder Drive in Finneytown; Tuesday August 26, and Tuesday, November 4.

Now visitors who have wireless-enabled laptops can access the web, check email and stay "connected " while enjoying one of Cincinnati's most beautiful attractions, Krohn Conservatory.  Lily Pad Internet Service, in partnership with the Cincinnati Park Board, is providing wireless internet service in many park areas.
